Thought Criminals, last night
Mar. 23rd, 2005 01:06 pmWow! So last night was the most fun I've had on a Tuesday in eons.
The Thought Criminals gig was intimidatingly located in New Cross, in deepest darkest South London where There Be Dragons! However my North London soul need not have fretted, because it turned out I didn't have to go to the very end of the remote East London tube line (the one linking Canary Wharf and Siberia), but take an overground train just ONE leetle stop from London Bridge. The venue was somewhat hidden down an extremely studenty side street, but I found it, went upstairs and Wow! What a great venue! Tall stage, huge dance floor, nice lights,
_alexander_ playing good music as usual, and £1 that's right £1 draft beers/ciders! Rar for the student union!
At first I didn't know anyone there but the band and the DJ, but slowly the club filled up with goffick and alternative types including
madbird and loads of new faces who all left with a Whine & Cheese flyer in their hand. When everyone was suitably bevvied up the Thought Criminals came on, playing their humorous but eminently danceable electro to an enthusiastic reception. The only problem was that, being a new band, they had to re-use some of their material for the encore! Well done guys for a very impressive first outing. Mark and I began hatching some plans for the space as it's got huge potential and a capacity of probably 800 or so. And it's only 1 train stop from London Bridge and has £1 beers and ciders!! At that price even Oscar had two. A most enjoyable and cheap evening. You must all come next time.
