Topped off an insanely crazy week with two fabulous events on Friday and Saturday nights.

After a disappointing August due to the extreme heat at the Black Cat, Dollhouse was back in full swing on Friday night. It was still quite warm, but the crowd was back to its usual self and the energy was restored as well. DJ Neska did a terrific job and had a great time. A number of people asked about her. Every guest DJ we've had there has had an absolute blast, which really does lead me to objectively conclude that Dollhouse is the funnest night in town. :) I played a bunch of new-to-me stuff and got a ton of requests, of which I was able to get to about half -- the remainder either I didn't have, or couldn't fit in because I was playing other requests!

Sisters of Mercy - More * [Ack there are no short Sisters songs!]
Peter Murphy - No Home Without Its Sire *
Duran Duran - The Chauffeur [was supposed to be the last song, but the lights were still off so...]
Death in June - God's Golden Sperm

I got back some pictures Putz took of me at the Cruxshadows, when Rogue had me onstage to wish me a happy birthday and everyone was singing. Oh my gawd my smile is just WAY too huge for a goth! Must scan those soonest.

After Dollhouse we dragged Meekay to Seth's 30th b-day party, where I learned a new slogan: "Vodka before rum, very dumb." I did get to see a very old and grainy video of JIVA sounding like old Cure though. :) Happy b-day Seth, ya old (but still younger than me) fucker! It only gets better from here.

Saturday - slept most of the day (thank goddess!) and picked up a few things from Bob & Louise who are moving to London. You know you need a bigger apartment when there is no space for a full-length mirror. Groan. Went out to a belated birthday real-food dinner with Cathy (Thai), took care of a pesky problem, and then stopped by Dark City.

The night r00lz! Despite being near-dead from my crazy week, I stopped by for a few hours this evening and was greatly impressed. First, the downstairs: From Tony's description I had been led to believe it would basically be the back hallway at Catacomb with a lunch counter, and a computer playing atmospheric goth at a near-inaudible volume. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. The room is quite large, with plenty of tables and booths and its own bar, and DJ Eye.Pahd was playing a good mix of both ethereal and rhythmic goth. We've got to get him to guest DJ at Purgatorio sometime ;) It was a great place to escape to and hear great music at a lower, but certainly not background, volume. Which I unfortunately had to do after about an hour upstairs - this damn cold is just wreaking havoc on my voice box still :(

Upstairs there is a bar area with stools and a number of tables, and then the dance floor which is far larger than Catacomb's. Tim, Tony and Kangal were playing a good mix of EBM, industrial and dancey-goth. There are plenty of places to wander throughout the venue. The only possible negative things I can think of are the upstairs paint-job (ewww pastels!) and the fact that there is only one narrow set of 3 stairs leading to the dance floor, somewhat hindering ingress and egress. But that has only to do with the venue itself, and overall compared to the Meeting Place, well, there just is no comparison. It was a nice nostalgia trip to see the old Cage staff too - Jose (who had actually showered and shaved), Freddie and Toni. Thumbs way up on this terrific new event!

OK one more setlist and then I'm off to bed.

In which I was charged with the atypical task of playing stuff people know.

Sorry I missed Dark City. The coworkers wanted to go to Georgetown, so we wandered around, but none of us had very much fun. Perhaps I'll catch it next time.
