The Farcebook real-names plot thickens. I have just learned that someone who changed his name in 2011, on his bank accounts and passport and everything, was told that in spite of having ID to prove his name is "Geordie Debauchery", Farcebook didn't find that name acceptable so they made him reinstate his account under his former name! So deed poll might not even solve my problem.
If I have to quit my career as a promoter because of no access to Farcebook, can I sue them for loss of earnings?

Better, if someone were to organise a protest at Facebook's London offices, who would attend? (How to organise any sort of large event without using Facebook, oh the irony)

"Farcebook didn't find that name acceptable"
What? That is just insane.

Geordie is of course an actual first name. As is Psyche.

I think if you go for something less likely to offend them than Debauchery you'll be fine. xxx

But Deejay? Nocturnia? Eponymous? Where do they draw the line? How many attempts do I get before they just reinstate me under the old name, outing me to 1,000 people? Grr.
I'm thinking of just joining under something like "Jane Smith" (or something less obvious)

Sarah Jane Smith?

My sister's name is Sarah, so no.
I do have a couple of potential normal-sounding names in mind. Neither are female names.

Come join http://fb-v-privacy.livejournal.com/profile where we can all share our woes and support (and sometimes - reconnect!) with FB-lost-ones.

And maybe plan a protest outside FB offices in London :-) Its been ages since I was in London!

Thanks Vexen, I've just created a similar thing in Google+.

Hi, I don't know if I know you but I do know some of the others on that profile. Thanks for setting it up.

I really hope that this is going to enliven LJ again. I've been woefully absent from here for too long and whilst I've got a Google+ presence I'm not convinced about that space either (for many of the reasons I didn't want Farcebook to know my real name)

I was thinking about changing my name to get around it, but didn't get there in time. Honestly, I actually don't mind so much having my real name. I was waiting to see if they caught me before I changed it, but apparently that is no longer an option.

Could you make yourself a company page on fb to use as DJ & promoter?

Yeah but people CALL YOU your real name.

I have a Death and Taxes page, I have a Memepunks page, neither of which I am allowed to access since Facebook won't let me back in. (A professional Page must be tied back to a personal profile, it can't stand on its own.)

That is just bullocks! And demonstrates that there is no true justification behind the policy since even from a marketing perspective it doesn't make any sense to not allow someone who's name has been changed under deed poll!

(I guess there must be some US/UK disjunction here but still.

And how to organise a large event w/o FB? I'm sure that it could be managed but I guess that if it was me trying to organise it then the first question I would stumble against would be how to gauge interest in such a thing. Yes an interesting puzzle :)
